Safety Specialist

Position Summary
True Rock is seeking a Safety Specialist to support our road and highway construction
operations. This position is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring
compliance with OSHA and DOT requirements, and assisting field crews with hazard
recognition, incident prevention, and safe work practices. The Safety Specialist will spend a
majority of time in the field supporting active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits on road and highway construction
projects
• Support implementation and enforcement of company safety policies, OSHA regulations,
and DOT requirements
• Assist with job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and daily safety briefings
• Deliver and document toolbox talks and safety training
• Monitor traffic control setups, flagging operations, and work-zone safety compliance
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage; prepare reports and corrective
actions
• Track and maintain safety documentation, including training records, inspections, and
corrective actions
• Assist with workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work coordination
• Participate in safety meetings with project managers, superintendents, and crews
• Promote proactive hazard reporting and continuous improvement in safety performance
Required Qualifications
• 2+ years of safety experience in road, highway, or heavy civil construction
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926)
• Familiarity with DOT, MUTCD, and work-zone traffic control requirements
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with field crews
• Ability to travel between multiple job sites and work outdoors in varying conditions
• Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Experience with incident investigations and root-cause analysis
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical Requirements
• Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, or weekends as project schedules require
