Surveyor-in-Training – Civil Construction Projects

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field layout for grading, storm drainage, utilities, and structures
  • Operate Trimble R12i GPS rover and associated equipment with high accuracy
  • Assist with topographic, boundary, and as-built surveys
  • Calculate storm drainage pipe sizes, slopes, and capacities
  • Read and interpret construction plans and civil engineering drawings
  • Maintain field data records, QA/QC checks, and daily reports
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field crews
  • Ensure compliance with company safety and quality standards

Qualifications:

  • Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification required
  • 1–3 years of field experience on civil or infrastructure construction projects
  • Proficient with Trimble equipment and Trimble Access software
  • Ability to perform basic storm drainage calculations (Manning’s equation, slope, flow rates)
  • Familiar with site layout plans, CAD files, and control networks
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently or in teams
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Trimble Business Center
  • Construction staking
  • machine control experience
  • Familiarity with DOT, municipal, or large-scale development standards
