Level 2 Hot Mix Asphalt Technician

Job Description/ Summary:

The laboratory technician will be responsible for working with a team to accurately and consistently test construction materials related to asphalt mixes in a timely manner. This will involve the breakdown of road and quarry material, batching and producing specimens, testing specimens, analyzing data, and problem solving. The laboratory technician will report to the senior mix design technician.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Observe safe work practices at all times
  • Follow quality control guidelines and industry approved testing and preparation
    standards
  • Record and organize information from a variety of sources accurately
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the mix design team
  • Obtain state D.O.T., county, city, etc. materials and testing standards in a timely
    manner
  • Collect samples from existing roads, quarries, and plant locations for evaluation
  • Use a variety if heavy duty saws and drills to effectively prepare road samples
  • Prepare and test specimens according to industry standards and specifications
  • Evaluate and analyze test results and take corrective action when needed
  • Assist in general maintenance and calibration of all laboratory and road
    equipment
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Calculations and data reduction of test results and other company attendance policy to ensure operate at normal proficiency level

  • Communicate with plant personnel to ensure quality mix
